Stories By Moonlight is a campaign to take bedtime stories outside to reconnect with nature, each other and the ecosystems on which we depend. Through a simple collective act we are building a movement of families calling for greater outdoor time, nature connection and environmental care.
ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN
Moonlit storytelling much like our relationship with nature it is something we have lost in just a few generations. 90% of our lifetime is now spent indoors. Childhood especially has changed. Increasingly indoor, screen bound and nature deprived. British children spend less time outside than prisoners. A quarter play outside less than once a month and one in ten have not visited a green space of any form in over a year. The impact our distancing from nature has on our health, wellbeing and environment is all too clear but how can we reconnect children with nature when we are so disconnected ourselves?
Well, there is one place left in childrens and families lives where nature still RULES, where animals, the woods, outdoor time, adventure and the WILD run free.
That place is Bedtime Stories!
Stories By Moonlight is taking nature stories and bedtime outside. Reconnecting the stories with our lives.
A Simple Act Becomes A Movement
Stories By Moonlight is about the stories we choose to tell and the present and future story of our relationship with the natural world. We are more than just a campaign for outdoor bedtime fun – we are a movement of families, outdoor practitioners and support organisations working together to increase wellbeing and environmental social action across the UK.

Stories By Moonlight Supporter Guide
*Individuals engaging in the campaign will be responsible for their own safety and adherence to government guidelines. Organisations registering to host a Stories By Moonlight related event will be fully responsible for the delivery and safety of their event and will need site-use permission, insurance and Covid-19, public safety and child safeguarding policies in place.
